YO: DURHAM INTERNSHIPS

Students will work in paid internships from September to May.  YO:Durham will provide student scholarships for employers unable to pay the stipend.  Care will be taken for appropriate intern placement and continuous support will be provided to employers.

Characteristics of an internship:

·        Approximately 36 weeks of employment

·        6 – 10 hours per week after school or on weekends

·        Flexible hours dependent upon the needs of the student’s and employer’s schedules

·        Job related to student’s career interest as much as possible

·        Active participation by students in hands-on work experiences

·        Exposes students to requirements for a career in this field

Expectations of the employer:

·        Convey value and satisfaction of work

·        Recognize typical characteristics of teens

·        Provide feedback on student progress to YO: Durham on a regular basis

·        Provide meaningful workplace experience

·        On-site job mentor/supervisor
